President's Podium

November 4, 2021

Greetings, MVMSA Members,

The past two years have been a challenge for so many, having to make and adjust to changes driven by mandates just to keep us all safe and healthy. While the enduring pandemic has changed our norms and forced restrictions and sacrifices upon us, we have continued to be resilient through it all and managed to press forward with life as it is today. As your new President, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for staying strong, taking on the role of a Leader, overcoming the various protocols, and being successful in carrying forth the Vision, Mission, and Goals set by the Department.

I am honored and look forward to serving as your MVMSA President. I've been a member of this accomplished organization since 2006 and most recently served as the Headquarters Area Representative in 2009. We continue to see growth in our membership as more Team Leaders join the organization, and our Board of Directors reach out to new and upcoming Team Leaders to encourage them to join. MVMSA has, for many years, partnered with Linda Sullivan and Larry Svetich of Hughes Svetich Associates and two of the most caring AFLAC representatives, Lorrie Burns and Kathy Morris, all of which have worked with us to promote our organization by attending meetings, assisting with personnel issues/concerns, representing the Association at CalHR and providing various AFLAC insurance options at reasonable group rates with one-on-one customer service.

Above it all, our success is ultimately achieved with the support of you, our members. We have achieved so much through your level of dedication, participation, and support of our projects and Annual Conferences (pre-Pandemic). I look forward to our continued success and your sincere loyalty and dedication to MVMSA and the Department.

Warm regards,
George Torres

Vice-President's Corner

November 4, 2021

Fellow MVMSA Members,

There is no doubt that the past two years have exacted a heavy toll on many of us directly and indirectly through the employees and the department that we support. Times have been trying. Throughout these trying times we have maintained; we have maintained integrity, we have maintained resilience, we have maintained our ability to be dependable. In short, we have maintained our roles as members of the Managers and Supervisors Association with grace in the face of uncertainty. However, the setbacks of the global pandemic are not forever and rest assured we will get back to some form of normalcy at some point, it may not be the normalcy we are used to, but we will achieve normalcy, and it will be welcome.

This is my first election to the role of Vice President of the MVMSA, although I have been a member for my entire tenure as a supervisor and manager, which is the better part of my career with the State. Over that time period, I witnessed the MVMSA organization be an active, informative, and assistive organization for its membership, and I have witnessed the organization at the other end of that spectrum. I look forward to all of us continuing to move MVMSA forward, taking on the challenge of today while working to understand and face the challenge of tomorrow. I look forward to MVMSA continuing the work that benefits you, the individual member. Finally, I look forward to being a contributing member of the organization that represents, in my view, the very best people with whom I have had the opportunity to work. I look forward to serving.
